Why raise Irish Dexter cattle? Not only are they handsome cattle, but they are dual-purpose: they are great milkers and provide excellent beef. Irish Dexters need less space than full-sized cattle, are excellent mothers and produce
lively calves. There is a growing market for Irish Dexters, because they do so well on small acreage. We sell our highest quality calves as registered breeding stock and keep the rest for high quality grass fed beef.
GPF Freedom's Gary is our herd sire. He has been with us since we starting raising Irish Dexters in central North Carolina in 2014.
Our small herd located in New London North Carolina is comprised of black, dun and red dexters. We do not breed for color, but we do enjoy having variety. Our herd is all naturally polled, and we do not have any cattle with PHA or Chondrodysplasia genetic defects that some dexters carry. We strive to have A2/A2 milk protein in all of our cattle as well. Most of our cattle are halter trained and are easily led between pastures or onto a trailer when needed.
